the target panel, then hyperlink to that. Links page added to the burrow, I’ll be adding more stuff into that.
Edited the animated gif of the sitting/running bunny, see the bunny scamper (cheers Tony!). Very easy to edit in Photoshop, each frame is simply a layer.
Day 19
Animated bunny link.
Downloaded an animated gif to use as the link from the ClubHouse back to the burrow. Also started a links page to give credit for some of the stuff I’ve downloaded. Animated bunny added to Burrow home.
Day 18
Had a night out.
Days 16 & 17
Diddling with the ClubHouse and introducing an archive for posterity.
Expanded the ‘previous layout’ page of the ClubHouse to start saving pages from time to time as an archive/development history. Have also been trying different colours for the ‘current page’ button, will probably play some more before I finalise it. Oh yeah, and decided to go with the smaller buttons for the burrow.
Days 14 & 15
Searching for buttons and creating a print friendly view.
Been surfing to see what’s out there in the way buttons. Mainly wanted a suitable ‘printer friendly view’ button, after discovering, whilst on another computer with restricted print options from IE, that some of my main text fell off the end. So I created a thinner page with just the pertinent text which will hopefully print out OK whatever. Also changed the title text from a background to an inserted image so it will appear on a print out. Putting a png title graphic created with a transparent background on a colour background produced a bit of white edge to the text, so I have left the proper page titles as is. I’ll check how successful I was next time I’m on the other machine. Down side is that I now have 2 pages to do every time I decide to update this log.
Trying smaller buttons on the log page too, I think I prefer them, but I really want to check what they’re like on screens with different resolutions before I make up my mind.
Days 12 & 13
Working on the ClubHouse templates, now that I have images to work with.
Just the page templates to illustrate my proposed layout. Much happier with it once I had the colours and logo to work from. Take a look, I’ve been busy.
Cunning tip of the day…….
Keep a record of the numbers!.... I’ve been jotting down the colour codes; web panel pixel dimensions and coordinates, it makes it so much easier when it comes to matching things up that have been created using different software.
Days 9 – 11
Lots and lots of tweaking with things in photoshop.
Backgrounds and title graphics created with photoshop, layers are a very good thing. Like the gradient tool (in case you hadn’t noticed!), that combined with the marquee tool and a bit of copying and image flipping produced the title ‘doughnuts’.
The words for the title graphics were first done by adding WordArt in Word copying it to the clipboard and then starting a ‘New – Image for clipboard’ in photoshop. Once in photoshop the first thing to do is remove the background colour by converting the image mode to ‘Indexed color’, then going back in to the ‘Colour table’ and using the dropper to pick up the background colour you wish to become transparent. This is then converted back to ‘RGB’ so that it can simply be dragged and dropped as a layer to produce the final combined image. One tip is to check the size of the panel the image is going to become a background for. Discovered that jpg distorted the edges of the writing, but was fine for other stuff (photos; gradients; etc.). The png format was good with the title text and generally produces a smaller file size than gif.
Took ages, and a lot of patient fiddling, but I think the results were worth it.
Also added two earlier versions of the site for interest.
‘The 1st' my very first linked pages created in Word, produced at the end of day 1 prior to the frame experiement, and ‘Yellow’ my first real experiment in colour coordination, WebExpress and Photoshop are really rather useful (this one didn’t even make it to getting published before I decided I could do better).
